Dear
Neighbors and Guests,
Welcome
to the City of Saugatuck, a community dating back to the
early 1800's. Originally incorporated as the Village of
Saugatuck in 1868, the citizenry petitioned for cityhood
in 1984. Saugatuck, meaning "mouth of the river",
derives its name from our American Indian heritage and
proximity to the Kalamazoo waters.
The
Saugatuck web site has been designed to be user friendly
and provide immediate access to general information, introduce
you to city staff, City Council members, and the many
citizens who serve on our Boards and Commissions. Direct
inquiries to City Hall can be made during routine business
hours Monday thru Friday at 269-857-2603. In addition,
please note that my fellow colleagues and I on City Council
are available to you via phone or email.
A
number of city forms have been made available to be downloaded
to facilitate various application processes. This, in
conjunction with posting city ordinances, should expedite
service. Our City Manager, Kirk Harrier and his Administrative
Staff take pride in the many services provided within
the community, whether directly by the City of Saugatuck
or collaboratively with our neighbors in the Tri-Community.
This joint effort has allowed us to enjoy an improved
standard.
Come join us during this winter Holiday Season to enjoy
our downtown holiday light display. There is none other
like it in all of West Michigan. While strolling the downtown
streets amidst the dazzling lights, stop by our shops
and do a little holiday gift shopping, relax and enjoy
a meal in our award winning restaurants and simply have
fun while you visit us. And, if you are a resident or
are here for an extended visit, please feel free to join
us at any City Council or board meeting. Schedules are
posted on the web site and also in front of City Hall.
The most recent City Council meeting is aired the following
Tuesday and Thursday evening on public access channel
21 at 7:00 p.m.
Thank you for taking the time to peruse our web site.
We hope it has been helpful. If you have any ideas to
improve it, we welcome your input.
Cordially,

Mayor
Tony Vettori
