The City of Saugatuck is beginning an update to its Master Plan in accordance with the Michigan Planning Enabling Act (Public Act 33 of 2008), as amended. The Master Plan serves as the community’s long-range guide for land use, housing, transportation, economic development, natural resources, and overall quality of life. It establishes policies and goals to preserve Saugatuck’s unique character, support sustainable and orderly growth, and inform future zoning and land-use decisions.
Saugatuck last completed a long-range planning effort through the Tri-Community Comprehensive Plan in 2016, conducted collaboratively with the City of Douglas and Saugatuck Township. This update will build on that shared regional vision while providing an opportunity for the City to take a more detailed, focused look at its unique needs, opportunities, and future direction. The planning process will continue to acknowledge and coordinate with surrounding communities to support a cohesive and connected regional framework — while emphasizing Saugatuck’s individual community identity, priorities, and aspirations. |
